Frequently Asked Questions

Everything About Silicone Pet Products

Answers to the most common questions from brands, importers, and private labels working with YMS on custom silicone pet product manufacturing.

01 -- Partnership

OEM/ODM Collaboration

How YMS works with global pet brands, importers, and private labels through flexible manufacturing partnerships.

What is the difference between OEM and ODM at YMS?
OEM means we manufacture products based on your existing designs, drawings, or specifications. ODM means we provide design and development support -- from concept and 3D structure to prototyping -- using our in-house R&D team. YMS supports both models and often blends them for brands launching new SKUs.
Do you work with new brands or only established companies?
We serve both. Over 15 years we have supported international brands with annual purchasing above USD 10M, as well as startups and private labels building their first product line. Our flexible production allows us to scale with you.
Can YMS handle full product development from scratch?
Yes. We offer one-stop service covering industrial design, 3D modeling, structural engineering, mold development, prototyping, mass production, packaging, and certification support -- a true concept-to-shelf capability.
How do you protect my designs and intellectual property?
We routinely sign NDAs before any technical files are shared. Custom molds remain exclusive to the client, and designs are never resold or shown to third parties.

02 -- Design

Product Customization

What you can customize across our extensive silicone pet product portfolio -- from shape to multi-material assembly.

What silicone pet products can you manufacture?
Our portfolio includes foldable bowls, slow feeder mats, travel water bottles, pet mats, collars, grooming brushes, bathing brushes, pet toothbrushes, poop bag dispensers, paw washer cups, treat dispensing balls, snack bags, and more. If it involves silicone -- or silicone combined with plastic, PP, or metal -- we can produce it.
Can you develop a completely new product idea?
Absolutely. Share a sketch, reference image, or even a rough idea. Our engineers translate it into 3D CAD, propose structural improvements for manufacturability, and build functional prototypes before tooling.
Do you support multi-material products (silicone + plastic / metal)?
Yes. We specialize in bonding silicone with PP, PC, ABS, stainless steel, and aluminum. This is critical for products like foldable bowls with rigid rims, travel bottles with lids, or grooming brushes with handles.
Can I modify an existing YMS catalog product?
Yes -- this is our low-barrier private label path. You can adjust colors, add your logo, change packaging, or request minor structural tweaks on proven models without the cost of new tooling.

03 -- Materials

Material & Hardness

Food-grade silicone options, hardness ranges, and processing techniques we use for pet-safe products.

What grade of silicone do you use?
We use 100% food-grade, eco-friendly silicone -- BPA-free, odorless, non-toxic, and safe for direct contact with food and skin. All raw materials are tested against RoHS and REACH standards.
What is the difference between solid and liquid silicone?
Solid silicone (HTV) is compression-molded, cost-effective, and ideal for thicker, firmer parts like mats and bowls. Liquid silicone (LSR) is injection-molded, offering higher precision, finer details, and better transparency -- perfect for small intricate pet accessories. We operate 32 solid and 32 liquid production units to cover both.
What hardness (Shore A) options are available?
We produce from 20A (very soft, flexible) up to 80A (firm, chew-resistant). Common ranges: 30-40A for feeder mats and collars, 50-60A for bowls and brushes, 70-80A for durable chew toys and treat dispensers.
How durable is your silicone?
Our material formulation improves toughness by up to 45% compared to standard silicone. It maintains elasticity, resists tearing, and performs reliably across extreme temperatures (-40°C to 230°C) and long-term use.

04 -- Branding

Colors & Logo

Pantone matching, printing techniques, and branding options for your silicone pet products.

Can you match specific Pantone colors?
Yes. Provide a Pantone (PMS) code or a physical color swatch, and we will create a color-matched silicone sample for approval. Solid colors, translucent, pearl, and glow-in-the-dark effects are all possible.
What logo and branding methods do you offer?
We offer debossing/embossing (molded directly), silk screen printing, pad printing, UV printing, laser engraving, and heat transfer. Each method is matched to the product surface and expected durability.
Can I use multiple colors on one product?
Yes -- two-color and multi-color molding is available for products such as mats and chew toys. We can also combine printed graphics with colored silicone bases for a premium branded appearance.
Is printed logo safe for pets?
All inks used are food-safe, non-toxic, and compliant with FDA/LFGB. For chewable products, we recommend debossed logos to eliminate any abrasion of print layers.

05 -- Tooling

Mold Development

Mold costs, lead times, ownership, and precision -- everything about tooling with YMS.

How much does a custom silicone mold cost?
Mold cost depends on size, cavity count, complexity, and material (P20, 718H, S136 steel). Simple molds typically start from USD 500, while multi-cavity precision tools for liquid silicone may reach USD 3,000-8,000. We provide a transparent quote after reviewing your 3D files.
How long does mold development take?
Standard mold lead time is 15-25 working days from design confirmation, depending on complexity. Rush options are available for urgent launches.
Who owns the mold after development?
Once you pay the mold fee, the mold belongs to you. We store and maintain it in our factory free of charge during active production, and it is used exclusively for your orders.
What tolerance can you achieve?
Our precision mold technology controls dimensional tolerance within ±0.1 mm. Combined with automated silicone injection, we achieve flat surfaces free of burrs or flashing.

06 -- Prototyping

Samples & Prototyping

Confirm fit, feel, and finish before committing to tooling or mass production.

Do you offer free samples?
Existing catalog samples are typically free; the client covers courier charges. Custom samples that require new tooling or modifications involve a sample fee, which is often credited back against your first mass production order.
How long does sample production take?
Catalog samples ship in 2-3 days. 3D-printed prototypes are typically ready in 5-7 days. Full mold-based silicone samples take 15-25 days once mold development begins.
Can I request revisions after seeing the sample?
Yes. Minor adjustments to color, print, or finish are usually handled quickly. Structural changes may require mold modifications; we will quote the impact transparently.
What files do you need to start sampling?
Ideal: 3D CAD files (STEP, STP, IGS) with 2D drawings including dimensions and tolerances. If unavailable, we accept sketches, reference photos, or physical samples -- our team will reverse-engineer and digitize them.

07 -- Commercial

MOQ & Pricing

Minimum quantities, pricing structure, and payment terms for OEM/ODM orders.

What is your minimum order quantity (MOQ)?
Standard MOQ is typically 1,000-3,000 pieces per SKU for custom orders. For existing catalog items with simple logo customization, MOQ can be as low as 500 pieces. For new brands, we can discuss a trial order to help you test the market.
How is the unit price determined?
Unit price depends on product weight (silicone material cost), structural complexity, color/printing requirements, secondary processes, packaging, and order quantity. Larger volumes significantly reduce unit cost.
What are your payment terms?
Standard: 30% deposit by T/T before production, 70% balance before shipment. 100% upfront for mold fees. We also accept L/C at sight for large orders and support PayPal for samples. Long-term partners may negotiate flexible terms.
Do you offer volume discounts?
Yes. Pricing is tiered based on quantity -- the larger the order, the lower the unit price. We also offer annual contract pricing for brands committing to recurring orders.

08 -- Timeline

Production & Lead Time

Realistic timelines from PO confirmation to shipment, including capacity for urgent orders.

What is the typical production lead time?
Mass production typically takes 25-40 days after sample approval and deposit receipt, depending on quantity and product complexity. Larger orders scale efficiently thanks to our 49+ production lines running in parallel.
What is the total timeline for a new custom product?
Design & 3D modeling (3-7 days) → mold development (15-25 days) → sample approval (5-10 days) → mass production (25-40 days). Plan on approximately 60-90 days from kickoff to shipment for brand-new SKUs.
Can you handle rush or urgent orders?
Yes. Our scale and in-house tooling capability allow us to prioritize urgent projects. A rush surcharge may apply depending on how aggressive the deadline is.
How do you keep clients updated during production?
A dedicated account manager provides weekly progress updates with production photos and video. You can also request live video walkthroughs or on-site inspections at any time.

09 -- Quality
