Multi-Material Pet Product Manufacturing
Combining silicone with plastic, metal, fabric, and electronics in a single integrated workflow. We engineer bonded, insert-molded, and over-molded assemblies for the world's most demanding pet brands.
Material Combinations
Pairing Silicone with the Right Partner Material
We select material pairings based on function, feel, cost, and regulatory requirements -- not just aesthetics.
Silicone + Plastic
For rigid-flexible hybrids like foldable bowls, treat dispensers, and grooming tool handles.
Silicone + Metal
Load-bearing feeders, carabiners on leashes, metal-core brushes, and clip assemblies.
Silicone + Fabric
Collars, harnesses, and reflective webbing with molded silicone grips or logos.
Silicone + Electronics
LED collar housings, GPS trackers, and smart feeders with waterproof silicone sealing.
Silicone + Plastic
Rigid Frames, Soft Contact Surfaces
The most common pairing in pet manufacturing. We bond food-grade silicone directly to PP, ABS, or PC skeletons for structural integrity without compromising on softness, chew-resistance, or dishwasher safety.
-
Chemical Bonding LSR-to-plastic adhesion without secondary glue, verified by peel-strength testing.
-
Two-Shot Molding Single-cycle 2K production reduces cost and ensures permanent inter-layer adhesion.
-
Food-Grade Compliance All layers meet FDA / LFGB migration limits for direct food contact applications.
Silicone + Metal
Load-Bearing Precision Meets Soft Touch
Stainless steel, aluminum, and zinc alloy inserts are molded directly inside silicone to deliver strength where it's needed -- leash clips, feeder weighted bases, grooming blades, and brush backings.
Core Processes
Over-Molding & Insert Molding
Two foundational processes that enable permanent multi-material integration -- each selected based on your product's structural, cost, and volume requirements.
Over-Molding
A pre-formed substrate (plastic or metal) is placed in a mold, then silicone is injected over it. Ideal for grips, handles, and cushioned contact zones.
- Soft-touch grip surfaces
- Impact and vibration damping
- Waterproof seals around components
Insert Molding
Metal inserts, fabric strips, or electronics are positioned in the cavity before silicone injection, becoming permanently embedded in the final part.
- Load-bearing D-rings and clips
- Embedded reflective materials
- Sealed electronics modules
Bonding & Structure
Making Different Materials Act as One
Bonding strategy, mechanical interlocks, and structural geometry are co-designed to survive thousands of use cycles.
Chemical Adhesion
Primer-free self-bonding LSR formulations create molecular bonds with engineered thermoplastics.
Mechanical Interlock
Undercuts, through-holes, and dovetail features create geometric locks that resist pull-out.
Thermal Compatibility
Substrate selection accounts for silicone cure temperatures (150-200°C) to prevent deformation.
Engineering Review
Multi-Material DFM Analysis
Before any tool is cut, our engineers conduct a Design-for-Manufacturing review specific to multi-material products -- identifying risks and optimizing structure for stable, cost-effective mass production.
Request DFM ReviewDraft & Shrinkage Analysis
Separate shrinkage calculations for silicone (2-4%) vs. plastic (0.5-1.5%) to prevent warping.
Interface Stress Mapping
Identify bonding boundaries that risk delamination under flex, chew, or thermal cycling.
Flow & Gate Simulation
Mold-flow analysis ensures silicone fills completely around complex insert geometries.
Cost & Cycle Optimization
Balance 2K vs. assembled approach based on volume, cavity count, and target BOM cost.
Tooling
Mold & Insert Positioning Design
Multi-material molds require more than cavity geometry -- precise insert positioning, venting, and gate placement determine whether every shot is a good part.
Insert Nests
Precision-ground insert pockets with ±0.02mm tolerance to secure metal parts during injection.
Rotary & Shuttle Molds
For 2K production -- rotating platens index between plastic and silicone injection stations.
Cold-Runner Systems
LSR cold-runner designs minimize material waste and prevent premature cure in sprues.
Venting & Parting
Micro-vents eliminate trapped air at bonding interfaces -- critical for seal integrity.
Assembly & Finishing
Beyond Molding -- Complete Finishing Capability
